Police: Bartlett teen damaged squad car, spit at officer
A Bartlett teen accused of drunken driving damaged an unmarked squad car and spit on a police officer after he was taken into custody, police said Thursday.
Vincent D. Caruso, 18, was driving his black 2012 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck at a "high rate" of speed through the parking lot of Bartlett Plaza, a shopping center downtown at about 1:50 a.m. Saturday, police said.
The scuffle began when officers arrested him on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol, police said.
Caruso kicked out the rear-passenger window and damaged the door frame of the unmarked squad car, police said. One of the officers suffered minor injuries from the broken glass and was treated at the scene, Sgt. Geoff Pretkelis said. He couldn't say whether Caruso was injured.
The teen also spit on another officer, police said.
Caruso faces two felony counts of aggravated battery. Caruso, who lives on the 400 block of South Western Avenue, also was charged with criminal damage to state supported property, driving under the influence, reckless driving, unlawful consumption of alcohol and unlawful use of a license or permit.
A Cook County judge set his bail at $5,000 Monday.
He is due back in court 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 16.
