Rand Paul to headline DuPage GOP event

Republican presidential hopeful Rand Paul will headline a DuPage County Republican Party dinner next month.

The Kentucky senator finished a more than 10-hour speech in Congress late Wednesday night opposing parts of the Patriot Act. He'll be the keynote speaker at DuPage Republicans' Lincoln Day dinner next Wednesday in Lisle, according to the invitation.

Tickets start at $150 for the 5:30 p.m. event at the Sheraton Hotel on Warrenville Road in Lisle.

"We're excited for Rand Paul's address, which will officially kick off the presidential primary campaign for DuPage Republicans," Darlene Ruscitti, chair of the DuPage GOP, said.

Cook County Republicans had record attendance at their annual dinner in February featuring New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie. DuPage GOP spokeswoman Diana Paluch said Thursday afternoons that tickets are still available but "going fast."

DuPage County has long been a center for Illinois Republican politics, and in 2012, the Republican presidential primary lasted long enough in the season for Illinois' March contest to matter.

Paul is just one in a growing field of Republican primary candidates for president. Onetime Lake County resident and 2012 presidential candidate Rick Santorum is set to make his 2016 intentions known next week.
