Pets rescued from fire in Palatine home

Firefighters rescued pets from a Palatine house fire Thursday morning, authorities said.

There were no injuries to the animals, firefighters or the homeowner, who was already outside when crews arrived at 9:49 a.m. to the one-story house on the 700 block of East Glencoe Street.

Firefighters found smoke on the first floor and fire in the basement. They got the fire under control by 10 a.m. and it did not spread to anywhere else in the home, authorities said.

The animals appear to have suffered "no ill effects" from the blaze, fought by nearly two dozen firefighters, according to a Palatine Fire Department news release.

Damage estimates were not immediately available and the fire's cause is under investigation.
