'The Portrait of a Soldier' exhibit opens May 23

The Sugar Grove Public Library, 125 S. Municipal Drive, will hold an opening reception for "The Portrait of a Soldier" exhibit at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 23.

State Sen. Jim Oberweis will provide opening remarks.

The exhibit, which will be on display through June 4, is a traveling display of hand-sketched portraits of fallen service members from Illinois who have given their lives since Sept. 11, 2001.

This exhibit is provided through the Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs.

Join them for commentary from local officials, with opportunity to honor local veterans and families of service members. Refreshments will be served.
