Ultimate's Grumhaus takes silver at National meet

It was a fitting end to what has been an outstanding competitive season. In her first National level meet, Ultimate gymnast Carrie Grumhaus claimed not one, but two silver medals at the recent Level 9 Eastern National Championships held at the Osceola Heritage Park Convention Center in Kissimmee, FL.

Carrie's first silver came on floor exercise, always a strong event for the Lake Forest native - she is the current Level 9 Region 5 regional champion on that event. Carrie scored 9.30 to place second in the Senior 7 age group and then added a fourth place finish on vault (9.40) and a 6th place on uneven bars (9.25). Her second silver medal came in the all-around, thanks to a consistent total score of 36.50.

The Gurnee-based gym was also represented at this year's Level 10 JO Nationals, hosted by Chow's Gymnastics and held in Des Moines IA. Winthrop Harbor's Lauren Marshall claimed her spot in the line up for the prestigious meet after a strong showing at last month's Region 5 regional competition in Ohio.

In the Senor A age group Lauren's 9.40 on vault placed her 25th out of the top 56 girls in her age group from across the US. She also scored a strong 9.20 on floor exercise.

This is Lauren's second experience of National level competition, but her first time at the JO National meet. Two years ago she qualified to the Level 10 National Invitational Tournament in Minneapolis.
