Boomers knock off ThunderBolts

The Schaumburg Boomers snapped a two-game losing streak, beating the host Windy City ThunderBolts 4-2 in a Wednesday matinee in Crestwood.

Mike Schulze of the Boomers (4-2), who has a hit in each of the first six games, led off with a single and scored on Ryan Tuntland's double. Mark Nelson singled on the next pitch for a 2-0 lead. With the score tied 2-2, Justin Vasquez (3 hits) singled home a pair of runs in the top of the eighth that proved to be the difference.

In his first professional start, Boomers rookie Scott Plaza worked 6⅓ innings and allowed 1 run. Hideyoshi Otake won for the first time in America, working ⅔ of an inning to win for the first time in America. Brandon Bargas pitched 2 scoreless innings for his first save.

The Boomers (4-2) will conclude the series today at 10:35 a.m. when they send right-hander Eddie Cody (1-0) against lefty Jake Fisher (1-0), the Frontier League Pitcher of the Week.
