Jazz, chamber music coming to Mayslake

From family singalongs to jazz to chamber music, the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County's Mayslake Peabody Estate, 1313 W. 31st St., Oak Brook, has a concert for all musical tastes.

"Music Together Family Sing-Along" at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 23, is for ages 7 and younger with an adult. Participants share songs, rhymes, movement and instrument play with Music Together teachers from Oak Brook and Elmhurst. The cost is $12 per person or $40 per family. "Classic Jazz - With Strings Attached!" is at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 28. The Elmhurst Symphony String Ensemble performs works by Gershwin and Duke Ellington, including "Take the 'A' Train," "Caravan," "Mood Indigo" and selections from "Porgy and Bess," such as "Summertime" and "It Ain't Necessarily So." CryptOlogiE performs at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 10. Pieces include Beethoven's "Piano Trio Opus 70 No. 1 'Ghost Trio'" for violin, cello and piano featuring virtuoso violinist and Picosa 2014 Breaking Ground Artist Clarissa Bevilacqual; Debussy's "Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun" transcribed for flute, clarinet, violin, cello and piano by composer-in-residence Jonathon Kirk; and Shawn Okpebholo's "CryptOlogiE," an homage to this Wheaton College composer's love of his young family with names and birthdays coded and composed into the work.

An optional tour of historic Mayslake Hall begins at 6 p.m. for an additional $5 per person.
