Experience family fun at Fishing Derby

Catch some great memories with Dad at the Schaumburg Park District's annual Father's Day Fishing Derby.

Dads, grandpas and children will enjoy fishing from 9 a.m. to noon June 20 at Volkening Lake, 900 W. Schaumburg Road. Participants will be divided into age groups of 3 to 5, 6 to 8, 9 to 12, 13 to 17 and a fathers' group. Prizes will be awarded for the shortest, longest, most fish caught and most unique catch in each age group. The event includes a hot dog, chips and soda for lunch.

Participants must bring their own poles and bait. Fish are released back into Volkening Lake after measurement.

"The Fishing Derby is a fun event for the whole family," said Stacy Johnson, assistant aquatics supervisor for the Schaumburg Park District. "Our longest catch last year was 14 inches. And just a hint, our Volkening Lake fish love popcorn!"

Cost for the derby is $10 for residents and $14 for non-residents. Pre-registration ends June 19. Day-of registration will be available at Volkening Lake.
