Street Theatre returns with summer favorites

Back by popular demand, the show "Hyronomous A. Frog" will kick off Street Theatre's 37th season with a performance sure to bring laughter to audiences of all ages.

Schaumburg Park District Street Theatre begins 7 p.m. June 8 at Addams School, 700 S. Springinsguth Road.

The show will feature the tale of Hyronomous, a lonely frog prince who lives in a bog in the kingdom of Spamelot. Bored and unhappy as a frog, Hyronomous is larger than the other frogs and hates the taste of flies. He learns through the good witch Gloria that he was once a human prince cast under a spell. To break this croak-filled wizardry, Hyronomous must be kissed by a maiden, leading to an adventure boasting plenty of hilarity and fun.

This year, the District is reviving popular shows from past seasons, including "The Loathsome Lady" and "Jack and the Beanstalk."

"It's a great opportunity for good family entertainment," said Beth Waller, cultural arts supervisor for the Schaumburg Park District.

Street Theatre performs at 7 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday at locations throughout the District including:

• June 10 at the Community Recreation Center, 505 N. Springinsguth Road

• June 11 at Blackwell School, 345 N. Walnut Lane

• June 15 at Bock Park, 1223 W. Sharon Lane

• June 16 at Town Square Amphitheatre, Schaumburg and Roselle Roads

• June 18 at Meineke Park, 220 E. Weathersfield Way

"One of the things people love about Street Theatre is that we're really close to the audience," Waller said. "It allows for interaction with the cast."

The audience is encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs for the free shows.
