Softball: Fox Valley roundup Tuesday, May 19
Burlington Central's Ashley Ratliff threw a 5-inning no-hitter Tuesday as the Rockets defeated Harvard 14-0 in Big Northern East softball action.
Ratliff struck out 7 and walked 2 while her teammates put together a 13-hit attack.
Leading the offense for BC (16-15, 10-4) were Amanda Ratliff (3-for-4, 2 RBI), Bryn Lawler (RBI), Emily Kisch (2-for-2, 2B), Gretchen Schrubbe (2-for-3, HR, 3 RBI), Jill Neisendorf (RBI), Kassi Gaylord (2-for-3, 2B, 3 RBI) and Kristina Ahlers (2-for-4, 3Bl, 4 RBI).
Bartlett 13, Metea Valley 2: Elyse Hickey (3 RBI), Danielle Kirby and Alyssa Nowak (2-for-4, 2 RBI) each hit home runs for Bartlett in this Upstate Eight Valley win. Nina Pavell (RBI) and Taylor Rotundo each had doubles for the Hawks (18-9-1, 11-7) while Amber Pagan was 3-for-4 and Katie Fornoff added 2 hits. Pagan picked up the win, going the final 3 innings in relief of Kirby.
South Elgin 5, Glenbard East 2: Rachel Ziemba went 4-for-4 with 3 triples and 2 RBI as the Storm (12-15, 10-9) won in the Upstate Eight Valley. Stacy Bellack had 2 hits with a double for South Elgin, Alissa Hargett was 3-for-3 with 2 RBI and Amber Derr added 2 hits. Karli Dobler was the winning pitcher.
CL Central 7, Jacobs 6: Alexis Addante, Sarah Murray and Kerri Healy (3 RBI) each hit home runs for Jacobs but it wasn't enough as the Golden Eagles (14-17) fell in nine innings in this Fox Valley Conference crossover. Emily Borg also had a double and an RBI for Jacobs. Addante was the losing pitcher.
CL South 11, Woodstock North 0: Carly Chovanec had a 2-run home run while Taylor Doppke (2B, 2 RBI) and Caitlin Fater (2 RBI) each added 2 hits to lead the Gators (17-9) to an FVC crossover win. Brittany Baker and Kim Woods each had doubles and RBI for Crystal Lake South and Hannah Koenig picked up the win with 3 innings in relief of Hailee Massie, who struck out all 6 batters she faced in her 2 innings. Koenig struck out 8 of the 9 batters she faced.
Cary-Grove 16, Woodstock 1: In another FVC crossover, Caitlyn Adams (2 RBI) and Brianne Prank (3B) each had 4 hits for the Trojans (10-17). Molly MacDuff (RBI) and Grace Pilz (2B, 2 RBI) each added 2 hits and Sarah Purpura had 2 hits with a double and 2 RBI. Alyssa Gurgone added 2 hits as well. Adams was the winning pitcher, allowing 1 hit with 7 strikeouts in 4⅔ innings.
West Chicago 16, Elgin 1: The Maroons (3-26, 2-18) had 7 errors in this Upstate Eight River loss. Sabrina Stockman was the losing pitcher.
Larkin 8, Streamwood 1: Jordan Dick (2-for-3, 4 RBI), Haley Bohne (2-for-3, 2 RBI), Sophie Young (2-for-3, RBI) and Danielle Newquist (RBI) led the offense for the Royals (6-22, 5-14) in this UEC River win. Sarah Hansen was the winning pitcher, allowing 6 hits. Losing pitcher Jessica Daley had a double for Streamwood (8-21, 5-16).
Huntley 10, Grayslake North 0: Megan Larson had a home run, while Katelyn Behrens (3 RBI), Jessica Knutsen (2 RBI), Shannon Walsh and Hayley O'Mara (2B) added 2 hits each to lead Huntley (19-7) to an FVC crossover win. Tiffany Giese allowed just 1 hit with 5 strikeouts and no walks in earning the win.
