Crystal Lake South eliminates Dundee-Crown

Taylor Mroz took care of the offense while Jaclyn Przybylski put together a stellar effort in the goal.

Mroz's 2 goals and Przybylski 6 saves were good enough to produce a 5-1 win for second-seeded Crystal Lake South over No. 3 Dundee-Crown in semifinal action of the Class 3A Jacobs girls soccer regional Tuesday night.

South (14-6-2) advances to the regional championship game to play top-seeded 1 Huntley (16-3) Friday at 5 p.m. The Red Raiders knocked off host Jacobs 4-1 Tuesday.

"I liked the way we started the game," said Gators coach Jay Mueller, "We relaxed a little bit and thought the game would be too easy."

Mroz scored off a nifty precise pass from Katherine Siavelis which got the Gators on the scoreboard with 3 minutes and 30 seconds gone in the match.

The Gators kept up the offensive heat on D-C (4-15-1). Jenna Ross picked up a loose ball in the front of the net and lofted a shot over the outstretched arms of Isabel Miranda to give Crystal Lake South a 2-0 advantage with 29:21 left in the first half.

The Chargers (4-14-1) refused to quit and Heily Ramirez scored on a direct kick with 23:55 remaining in the first half.

The Gators ripped away the momentum from D-C as Kim Sulikowski scored off a perfect pass from Jen Luken to give South a 3-1 lead with 8:46 left before intermission.

Crystal Lake South, which outshot the Chargers 17-8, seized control of the game with 2 unanswered goals in the second half.

Mroz scored her second goal of the night on an assist by Sulikowski and Siavelis scored South's fifth goal of the night with 1:45 left in the game off an assist by Luken, her second assist of the night,

'We are really meshing as a total team at an important part of the season," said Mroz. "We are not naive enough to take anything for granted. We are keeping a positive attitude and we are not a selfish team at all."

Miranda, who left the game with possible concussion symptoms, had 5 saves in the game. Reserve goalie Taylor Gonio registered 2 saves in the second half.

"Our kids really battled against a very good South team," said D-C coach Sebastian Falinski. "Our mistakes were crucial mistakes and were costly. You can't make mistakes against a quality team like South. They will capitalize on them."
