O'Connor paces another Buffalo Grove win
Sarah O'Connor matched her jersey number with her 22nd goal of the season and followed up with her 23rd, leading Buffalo Grove with 2 goals in the Bison's girls soccer postseason debut Tuesday.
Georgette Topalis also scored for BG in a 3-0 victory over Prospect in regional semifinal play Tuesday at Libertyville.
"I jumped in to play on the field," said O'Connor, who'd been the Bison goalkeeper the previous two season but has thrived as a forward this year. She will continue as a field player next school year at Eastern Kentucky. "It's been a fun year - never expected to score so much. It comes from everybody to make this happen. I've done extra workouts and shooting."
O'Connor scored the opening goal in the 12th minute to give Buffalo Grove a 1-0 lead.
Topalis made it 2-0 after a Prospect mistake near the back post on a corner kick in the 31st minute.
O'Connor scored her second goal after a pass from Jessica Kovach. O'Connor then made her way through three defenders and scored.
"I know coming in Prospect played a tremendous nonconference schedule," Buffalo Grove coach Pat Dudle said. "I knew that they were better than their record.
"Our girls did a nice job with the game plan. I thought we did a nice job executing out there."
Prospect tried to stay with Buffalo Grove but couldn't match the pressure it faced.
"(Buffalo Grove) was a ton up top," Prospect coach Tom Froats said. "They have some really nice players that broke us down defensively."
