A milestone for Migus as Hersey stops Palatine

In the meeting of two of the Mid-Suburban League's top boys volleyball teams, Hersey had the upper hand as Bart Migus broke new ground in the program's history.

The Huskies, who tied with Buffalo Grove for the East Division title, delivered a 25-22, 25-18 victory over Palatine, the MSL West's second-place finisher, on Tuesday.

Migus, a senior, produced a match-best 14 kills to give 1,004 in his career. That figure surpasses Nate Gustus for the No. 1 spot all-time in coach Nancy Lill's program.

Angelo Coniglio had 8 kills, Peter Wesolowski provided 28 setting assists and Migus and Kevin Messer tied for the team lead with 7 digs apiece.

Palatine's Tyler Kendzior came up with a 14-for-15 hitting effort with a team-high 5 kills, while Zack Wheat with 5-for-5 with 3 kills and also provided 4 blocks.

Jake Boldog led Palatine with 4 assists.

Prospect d. Fremd: Dane Schweinzger had a team-best 10 kills while Eryk Krzyzak had 7 and Alex Blethen 6 to help Prospect past the Vikings 25-17, 25-17 in an MSL divisional third-place crossover. Blethen led the Knights with 13 digs, and Kyle Gerber produced 22 setting assists.

Fremd (16-17) got 5 kills apiece from Ben Zimmerman, Tyler Larson and Lucas Lang, while Patrick Kurka had 12 digs and Eduardo Amador procued 15 assists.

Elk Grove d. Schaumburg: Senior Ray Kraus had a strong all-around performance, delivering 5 kills, 15 assists, 3 blocks, 5 digs and 2 aces on 8-for-11 serving to help Elk Grove top Schaumburg 25-20, 25-11.

Geoffrey Dybicz had 5 kills and 3 blocks for the Grens.

Rolling Meadows d. Conant: The Mustangs followed up their strong play in a tournament victory at Fremd over the weekend with a 27-25, 25-22 victory against the Cougars.

Tommy Murphy (12 kills), Logan Reese (8) and Enrique Avellaneda (6) led the attack; Murphy also served 3 aces and had 5 digs. Marc Quezada contributed 6 digs, and Avellaneda had 25 assists.

Top producers for Conant included Connor Lejman (8 kills), Nick Pope (11 digs) and Nate Armando (18 assists).

Hoffman Estates d. Wheeling: Wheeling came up with stronger play as the match progressed in a 20-25, 25-20, 25-12 victory over the Hawks.

Hoffman Estates got 5 kills, 6 assists and a service ace from Matt Stacy, while Hardik Patel had 9 assists on 34-of-35 setting and Brian Girard had 2 blocks.
