Hanover Park a stop on 21-day, 19 state tribute to vets, emergency responders

Pat Gavros, who is making a 21-day, 5,000-mile show of support for veterans and emergency responders, made one of a few suburban stops in Hanover Park.

She recently presented a plaque to Hanover Park Police Chief David Webb that will be displayed in the department's headquarters.

Gavros aims to cover 19 states and meet more than 1,000 veterans by the end of the month. A common thread on her trip - dubbed the Patriotic Challenge - are visits to veterans and war dog memorials.

Hanover Park has the former and the latter is in the works. A fundraiser is in full swing to install a statue of a German shepherd at the veterans memorial outside village hall. Donations can be sent to: War Dog Memorial, c/o Village of Hanover Park Public Works Department, 2041 Lake St.

Per her itinerary, Gavros plans to arrive in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Tuesday, May 19.
