These principles are hardly extreme

I am writing in response to Mark Anderson's letter which appeared in the May 3 Daily Herald.

The website referenced in his letter is not the official website for the organization that sponsored the April 15 event nor did that website's group have anything to do with the event.

Mr. Anderson then goes on an extended rant about the "Tea Party" and government shutdowns. Apparently his crystal ball wasn't clear enough to inform him that government shutdowns have been a bipartisan event. Government shutdowns have occurred during the Ford, Carter, Reagan, George H.W. Bush and Clinton presidencies. At various times during these administrations, each of the parties had Congressional control.

Mr. Anderson goes on to paint Tea Party members as "a bunch of unpatriotic extremists" and "domestic terrorists." The organization that sponsored the April 15 event states on its website, www.illinoisteaparty.net, that it advocates for limited government, free markets and fiscal responsibility. Are these principles extreme? I think not. In fact our Founding Fathers espoused these very principles.

As far as domestic terrorism, I suggest Mr. Anderson speak with our current president's friend Bill Ayers.
