St. Viator wins twice against Benet

Pitching was the name of the game for St. Viator on Saturday as the Lions won twice against Benet Academy on Saturday by the same score, 2-1, in East Suburban Catholic Conference baseball.

Kevin Napoleon struck out six, walked two and allowed 4 hits in a complete-game effort in the second game of the day. Ben Dickey had 3 hits, and Aaron Tres had 2 for the Lions (21-10).

In the first game, George Burney went 5⅔ innings before Tres relieved and got the save.

Matt Darling had a solo homer, and Shaun Falbo drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.

Hersey, Lake Park split: In nonconference play, the Huskies (9-17-1) won the first matchup 6-1 and dropped the second 9-4.

Paul Tokar and Brett Harris had 3 hits apiece, including a double for each, to help power Hersey in the first game. Will Trossen drove in 2 runs, while Tanner Luke pitched 5 innings of 6-hit ball to pick up a win and Dylan Goone tossed 2 hitless relief innings to earn a save.

In the second game, Max Heeren went 2-for-3 with a double and Williams Goldsberry drove in 2 runs but the Huskies could not overcome 6 errors.

New Trier 4, Maine West 1: The host Warriors (13-13) host dropped a Central Suburban crossover as five player had 1 hit apiece, all singles.

Leyden splits with Hinsdale South: The Eagles (10-18) won 5-2 in the first game of WSC Gold play before dropping the second 1-0.

In the first game, Hector Herrera tripled and drove in a run, Jeremey Borgess had 3 hits and Zac Seymore and Tom Szopinski both double to make a winner of Kevin Nevarez.

Herrera pitched well in the second game, striking out eight and allowing 1 run and 7 hits in 5 innings. But Nevarez had Leyden's only hit, a single.

Conant splits at McHenry: The Cougars pushed across singles runs in the first, third and fourth innings to claim a 3-2 win, then fell 1-0 in the second game.

Matt Fauth went 2-for-4 with an RBI, Jimmy Brady drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and Anthony Forte doubled and drove in a run in the victory for Conant (18-13).

• Schaumburg fell 12-3 against Libertyville, Wheeling dropped a 10-5 decision to Warren and Fremd lost 6-1 to Mundelein in nonconference play.
