Dist. 211 holds open house Sunday for student-built houses

Students in Palatine-Schaumburg High School District 211's Building Construction program are in the final stages of completing two houses they have worked on for the past two years.

District 211 will host an open house for students to showcase their hard work and allow the public to see the houses that are up for sale. The open house will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 17, and people will have an opportunity to place an offer.

The houses, which vary in style and size, are at 904 E. Glencoe, Palatine, and 585 Washington, Hoffman Estates. Students have been finishing various items on each house, including landscaping, trim and painting, lighting and other small details.

The building construction program allows students from each school the opportunity to learn about various aspects of building a single-family house, including how to read blueprints, what the architecture and construction fields are like, and other marketable skills for after-graduation career opportunities.

The houses are built under the supervision of their teachers and building contractors, architects, and other professionals in the field.
