Boomers open with shutout victory

CRESTWOOD, Ill. - The two-time defending Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers opened the 2015 season by shutting out the host Windy City ThunderBolts 2-0 at Crestwood on Thursday.

The Boomers' Seth Webster worked 7 shutout innings, allowing 3 hits with 6 strikeouts and retiring 12 straight from the second through sixth innings. Relievers Brandon Bargas, Clark Labitan, and Dexter Price finished the shutout, with Price earning the save after a 1-2-3 ninth. Jordan Dean (2 hits) had an RBI fielder's choice and a solo homer. Mike Schulze reached base in all 5 at-bats with 2 walks and a hit by pitch and a pair of doubles. Michael Valadez and Craig Massey each had 2 hits.

The Boomers continue their season-opening road trip with a 6:05 p.m. game today against the Washington Wild Things in Pennsylvania. Right-hander Eddie Cody starts for the Boomers against RHP Matt Sergey.
