Baseball: Lake County roundup

Carmel Catholic senior Skylar Williams shut down Libertyville's offense in the Corsairs' 5-0 nonconference baseball win Thursday.

Williams scattered 4 hits in a complete-game effort, striking out one and walking four.

Matt Collins hit a solo homer - his second of the season - for Carmel, which scored 3 runs in the bottom of the first inning. Griffin Norton had a double in the win.

Jake Vogt was 2-for-4 for Libertyville (18-11). Wildcats junior Matt Friello threw 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief, striking out two.

Stevenson 2, Crystal Lake South 0: Michael Kingery helped the host Patriots bounce back after getting swept by Mundelein in North Suburban Lake action this week.

Kingery threw a complete-game 2-hitter, striking out two and walking one.

Robby McGaha was 2-for-2 and scored a run for Stevenson (19-10-1) in its two-run sixth, while Carter Baretz went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Willie Bourbon doubled for the Patriots. Jimmy Marchese contributed a single and an RBI.

Grayslake Central 10, Hampshire 3: Greg Gauger hit 2 home runs, including a grand slam, and had 6 RBI, as the visiting Rams won the Fox Valley Fox game.

Gauger, David Llorens and Ethan Labeck were all 2-for-4 for Grayslake Central. Labeck and Sam Nozicka doubled. Justin Guryn earned the win, pitching 5⅓ innings. He struck out six, walked three and allowed 2 runs.

Grayslake North 7, Prairie Ridge 5: Danny Yates belted a grand slam to highlight a 6-run top of the first inning for the Knights in their Fox Valley Fox win.

Merrick Gentile was 3-for-3 for Grayslake North, while George Deligiannis went 3-for-5 with a double, run scored and an RBI. Stefan Davis pitched 4 innings for the win and helped his own cause with a 2-for-4 effort at the plate. Jack Barreca threw a scoreless seventh to record the save.
