Softball: Fox Valley roundup Tuesday, May 12

Kerri Healy's double in the top of the eighth inning drove in Sarah Murray, who had also doubled, with the go-ahead run and Jacobs upended Huntley 3-1 Tuesday in Fox Valley Conference Valley Division softball action.

The loss hurt Huntley's chances to catch McHenry in the Valley race as the Red Raiders slipped to 4-3 in the division. Huntley (16-6 overall), which had a 5-game winning streak snapped, is now 2 games behind the Warriors in the standings. Huntley hosts McHenry on Wednesday.

Murray went 2-for-4 and added a triple for Jacobs (13-15, 4-4) in Tuesday's win. Jess Mrzlak had an RBI for the Golden Eagles and Alexis Addante drove in Emily Borg, who had reached on an error, with an insurance run in the eighth.

Addante was also the winning pitcher, scattering 7 hits with 3 strikeouts and 2 walks in a complete game effort.

Losing pitcher Tiffany Giese had a double for Huntley. She struck out 7 and didn't walk a batter.

CL South 10, Dundee-Crown 7: Taylor Kassel had a double and an RBI while Carly Chovanec, Brook Maddox and Sam Burgard (3 RBI) each had 2 hits to lead the Gators (15-8, 3-5) in the FVC Valley. Hailee Massie was the winning pitcher. Losing pitcher Sydney Ruggles (2B), Deanna Origer (2 RBI) and Megan Emerson each had 2 hits for the Chargers (11-9, 3-5). Andrea Conway and Isabel Rodriguez each added doubles.

Riverside-Brookfield 8, St. Edward 5: Lindsay Zdroik, Ryann Scully (3B), Allison Stratman (2B, 2 RBI) and Devyn Ernst each had 2 hits for St. Edward (18-7-1, 6-5) in this Metro Suburban crossover loss. Zdroik was the losing pitcher in a game in which the Green Wave made 5 errors.

Grayslake North 8, Hampshire 5: The Whip-Purs pounded out 17 hits but still came up short in the FVC Fox. Aly Snider had 3 hits for Hampshire (11-16, 5-5), while losing pitcher Haley Widmayer (10 Ks, 2B), Lauren Egger, Joslyn Nelson, Melissa Esparaza, Emily Williamson and Ellie Lapi (2B) each had 2 hits. Renee Malecke and Peyton DeChant added doubles.

Neuqua Valley 6, South Elgin 0: Amber Derr, Stacy Bellack and Hannah Gordon each had 2 hits for South Elgin (10-14, 8-8) in the Upstate Eight Valley. Karli Dobler took the loss.

St. Charles North 11, Streamwood 0: Jessica Daley had a double for the Sabres (7-17, 4-12) in this Upstate Eight River loss.
