Blue ribbons a show of support for Mundelein police

Mundelein's appreciation for its police force is on full display this week thanks to volunteers who tied blue ribbons around trees throughout the village in honor of National Police Week.

About 25 volunteers, including Boy, Girl and Cub Scouts, alumni of the Mundelein Citizens Police Academy, and members of the Police Statue Committee, gathered Saturday to place the ribbons on Seymour and Park avenues, as well as other parts of the community.

"Our Mundelein police force deserves all the recognition that we can give to them for their dedicated service every day ... every year," Jack Forshaw, chairman of the Police Statue Committee, said in an announcement of the ribbon campaign. "The blue ribbon campaign is just one way we can show our appreciation for all they do for the community."

Forshaw's committee is raising funds for a life-size bronze statue featuring a police officer holding the hands of two children. The statue will be placed outside the police department, at 221 N. Lake St.
