Dolezal, Barrington shut out Fremd

So far this season, the Barrington and Fremd softball teams are fit to be tied.

With Barrington's 7-0 shutout over the visiting Vikings at the Fields of Dreams on Saturday, the two teams tied split in their Mid-Suburban League West series this spring.

They are also tied in the standings for second place behind Schaumburg (20-1, 11-0), which hosts Fremd on Monday.

The Fillies evened the series behind Keenan Dolezal's 2-hitter and 16th shutout of the season.

The senior right-hander (21-5) recorded the 36th shutout of her career and 80th win of her career, tying the school record of Abby Reed which was set from 2001 to 2004.

Dolezal, who struck out 12 and improved her career record to 80-18, gave up a double to Holly Straup and a single to Julie Josten.

The Fillies scratched out 1 run in the first, second and third innings and then put up 4 in the bottom of the fifth, highlighted by Jenna Fingerman's 3-run homer with one out.

The big inning started with a bunt single by Carly Kordich, who was advanced to second on Kelly Katis' sacrifice bunt.

Rachel Macdonald singled to right and went to second on an error.

With Kordich (2-for-4, 2 runs) on third and Macdonald on second, a suicide bunt on a 2-0 count by Rachel Krzysko (3-for-3, 2 RBI) got Kordich home.

Fingerman (2-for-3, 4 RBI) then followed with her fifth homer of the season and 26th for the Fillies.

"This game was important for us with respect to the MSL division race," said Barrington coach Perry Peterson. "We executed all three phases of the games well and look forward to the week ahead."

Buffalo Grove 6, Hersey 5: Host Buffalo Grove scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to raise its record to 14-7 and 7-5 in the MSL East, one-half game behind Elk Grove (21-7, 7-4).

Senior Julia Camardo (15-5) threw a 6-hitter with 6 strikeouts to earn the win and she went 2-for-4 at the plate.

Other multiple hitters for BG were Caitlin Catino (3-for-3, double) and Katie Fontanetta (2-for-3).

Sophomore shortstop Katie Wingerter (2-for-4) belted two homers over the center field fence for Hersey (7-16, 1-11) while Huskies pitcher Kaitlyn Denten (6 strikeouts) was 2-for-3 at the plate.

Trinity 7, Elk Grove 4: The Grenadiers (21-7) traveled to River Forest for the nonconference game on Saturday afternoon.

Haley Itzenthaler (4-of-4) batted in 3 of the Grens' 4 runs with a 2-run single and 1-run single.

Sarah Pauscher (2-for-4) and Melissa Picci (2-for-3) were also multiple hitters for EG.

Postponed: Hoffman Estates' game at Schaumburg and Rolling Meadows' game at Elk Grove were postponed and rescheduled for Tuesday.
