McEnroe, Post pace an Elk Grove victory

Jack McEnroe went 3-for-3 and drove in Brandon Post three times for all of Elk Grove's scoring in a 3-1 victory over Hoffman Estates in a Mid-Suburban League baseball matchup Saturday.

Post also went 3-for-3 for the Grenadiers (16-7, 9-3), who got 5 scoreless inning from starter Joe Lopez, 1 scoreless inning from Jonathan Maday and a 1-inning save from Christian Camacho, despite the visiting Hawks scoring their only run against him.

Jeff Mayes had 2 of the 4 hits for Hoffman Estates (10-11, 3-9), one of them a double.

Palatine 4, Hersey 1: The visiting Pirates made the most of 3 hits and starter Patrick Seeberger did the rest as Palatine earned an MSL victory.

Seeberger allowed 5 hits with 3 strikeouts and 1 walk in a complete-game effort.

Chris Macahon scored twice, stole 2 bases and drove in a run, and Mitch Dolen had a hit and drove in a run for Palatine (10-16, 5-7).

Ryan Allain had 2 hits, one of them a double, for Hersey (7-14-1, 5-7).

Joliet Catholic sweeps St. Viator: Despite some strong individual efforts, the visiting Lions came up short twice in East Suburban Catholic Conference play, dropping the first game 10-4 and the second 1-0.

In the first game, St. Viator's Dan Sullivan doubled twice and drove in a run and Cole Kmet had 2 hits, but Joliet Catholic produced 13 hits, including a pair of homers.

Aaron Tres pitched well for the Lions in the second game, limiting the Hilltoppers to 3 hits over 6 innings with 4 strikeouts.

Mike Dow was just as tough on St. Viator (19-10), which had 3 hits, one of them a double by Matt Darling.

Conant 3, Jacobs 2: Anthony Forte hit a solo homer in the top of the 10th inning for the winning run against the host Golden Eagles in nonconference play.

Joe Sekulich earned the win for Conant (14-10, 6-6) after tossing 3 scoreless relief innings.

Buffalo Grove 3, Vernon Hills 2: Mike Kleczynski drove in Nate D'Onofrio with a single in the top of the seventh to help the visiting Bison prevail in nonconference play.

Andrew Apel started and tossed 5 scoreless innings for Buffalo Grove (12-15).

Vernon Hills had the tying run at third base in the bottom of the seventh after Connor McNamara drove in a run with triple. But freshman reliever Jack Vaselaney got a game-ending strikeout against the next hitter.

Kleczynski finished with 2 hits, doubling in the sixth inning before being driven in by Trey Cervantes.
