Audition for CLC summer musical, 'Working'

Community members are invited to audition for the College of Lake County summer musical, "Working," based on the book by the late Pulitzer Prize-winning Chicago author Studs Terkel.

Auditions will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, May 18 and 19, in the Studio Theatre of the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts on the CLC Grayslake campus, 19351 W. Washington St., Grayslake.

To audition, actors should prepare a song from any version of "Working" and a two-minute monologue from any show. An accompanist will be provided. Director Thomas B. Mitchell is seeking cast members ages 16-60.

Callbacks will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 21. Copies of the score and script are available for in-library viewing at the CLC Library circulation desk on the Grayslake campus.

The musical will be presented by the CLC departments of music, theater and dance July 17-19 and 23-26 in the Studio Theatre.

"Working" was adapted by Stephen Schwartz and Nina Faso, with additional contributions by Gordon Greenberg, and songs by Craig Carnelia, Micki Grant, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Mary Rodgers, Susan Birkenhead, Stephen Schwartz and James Taylor.

The musical draws from the stories of "ordinary" working people. This newly updated adaptation paints a vivid portrait of the men and women the world so often takes for granted: the mill worker, cubicle worker, waitress, fireman, housewife, delivery driver and the schoolteacher, to name a few.

With a universal message and uplifting score, "Working" celebrates everyday people in a genuine, funny and touching way.
