Jacobs, Dundee-Crown announce hall of fame selections

The selections have been made for the Jacobs and Dundee-Crown high schools athletic halls of fame for 2015.

The Jacobs High School Athletic Hall of Fame board has announced its inductees for 2015, which includes three individuals and a relay team.

The inductees are:

Joe Majeski Cervantes, a 1983 graduate for basketball and baseball; Natalie Pucci-Klocke (2004) for volleyball and basketball; Ken Slimko, basketball coach from 1976-2002; and, the 2006 state champion and state record-holding 3,200-meter relay team of David Arndt, Mike Connolly, Aaron Russo and Evan Jager.

The induction ceremony for the Class of 2015 is scheduled for Friday, September 11. All inductees will be honored at halftime of the home football game at Jacobs High School.

The Dundee-Crown inductees will be Dick Storm (1968 Dundee High) for his 13 years as athletic director; Chad Copher (1990) for football and basketball; William Horcher (1981 Dundee High) for wrestling, cross country, tennis and football; Joshua Pasek (2007) for football, wrestling and baseball; and Roger Pasek (2007) for boys gymnastics.

Nicholson wins national title: Cary-Grove graduate Joslyn Nicholson won the NJCAA Division III national hammer throw championship Friday in Utica, N.Y. competing for Harper College. Nicholson's winning throw was 40.57 meters (133.1 feet). She then took second in the triple jump (10.85 meters), missing a national title in that event by .01.

Hit For Henry tennis clinic/tournament: "Hit for Henry" is a tennis clinic and tournament that will be taking place June 5-6 at the Jacobs High School tennis courts. All proceeds will benefit Henry Betts and his fight against Muscular Dystrophy. (Henry is the son of Jon Betts, District 300 Liberty Elementary teacher and Jacobs High School tennis coach.) The clinic is for students in grades K-8 and beginning adults on June 5. (No previous tennis experience necessary.) The tournament is for high school and adult tennis players interested in playing for a good cause on June 5-6.
