Baseball: Fox Valley roundup Thursday, May 7

Burlington Central scored early and often to further strengthen its foothold atop the Big Northern Conference East Division baseball standings Thursday.

The Rockets jumped out to a 5-0 first-inning lead en route to a 13-2 victory at Harvard Thursday. Central improved to 20-4 overall and a perfect 10-0 in East Division action. Central came into the day with a 2-game cushion over second-place Rockford Christian.

Central improved its lead to 11-2 after 4 innings.

Eight Rocket players had at least 1 hit, highlighted by Killian Vascica's 2-for-4 day at the plate that included a home run, a double, 2 runs scored and an RBI. Max Judnic was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI. Andrew Lauber added a double.

Dylan Barry went the distance, allowing 4 hits and 1 earned run in 5 innings to earn the win. He struck out 6.

Montini 12, Westminster Christian 2: Montini broke a 1-1 deadlock with a 7-run outburst over the third and fourth innings to walk away with this five-inning nonconference triumph. Westminster (14-12 overall) was limited to 3 hits, 2 coming off the bat of Jarrett Mueller (2-for-2, RBI). Nathan Martinez took the loss in relief of starter Luke Weston.

St. Charles North 16, Larkin 6: Larkin jumped out to a 3-0 first-inning lead but quickly found itself in a 12-4 hole after 4 innings in this Upstate Eight Conference River Division contest. Kevin Roberts (2 RBI), Jon Lenz (stolen base) and Joey Rahn each had a hit for the Royals (7-17, 4-13). Will King struck out 4 and was tagged with the loss against the loop-leading NorthStars (20-4, 13-3).

West Chicago 11, Elgin 1: The Maroons were limited to 3 hits in this Upstate Eight Conference River Division 5-inning setback in West Chicago. Kirtan Patel (RBI), Scotty Palmer and Mike Gonzalez each had a hit with Patel and Gonzalez registering doubles. Clay White stole 2 bases for Elgin (7-19, 3-12). Palmer took the loss.

Glenbard East 7, Bartlett 6: Glenbard East (10-13, 6-9) plated 3 runners in the bottom of the seventh inning to escape with this 1-run Upstate Eight Conference Valley Division victory. Bartlett led 6-2 at one point. Cameron Mays, Tripp Paris (2B, RBI) and Kyle Kucharski (2B, RBI) each had 2 hits for the Hawks (12-12, 9-7). Vince Searson took the loss in relief of starter Brandon Kendall (4 strikeouts, 5⅓ innings).

Timothy Christian 17, St. Edward 11: This Metro Suburban Conference crossover game featured 28 runs, 21 hits and 11 errors. Timothy Christian put the Green Wave in a major hole with a 10-run first inning. However, the Green Wave came right back with 8 runs in the second. Seven Green Wave players had hits. Jack Tierney (2-for-4, 2 runs) struck a grand-slam home run. Patrick Costello had a hit and 3 RBI. Jake LeFrenz doubled for St. Edward (7-16). Mike Dazzo took the loss.

Metea Valley 10, South Elgin 4: Metea Valley plated five in the second and fifth innings on its way to this Upstate Eight Conference Valley Division victory. Nick Menken went 2-for-3 with a triple and a run scored for the Storm (14-9, 9-8), who had 7 hits and failed in their attempt to leapfrog Metea into third place in the division. Justin Howard also had a triple to go with a run scored and an RBI, while Daniel Asa was 1-for-2 with an RBI and Antonio Danesi was 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.

St. Charles East 7, Streamwood 1: Jose Aguilar was 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and a stolen base for the Sabres (4-19, 3-13). Jonah Seckel took the loss in an Upstate Eight Conference River ballgame that was scoreless through four innings. Streamwood had 4 hits.
