Softball: Fox Valley roundup Thursday, May 7
Junior Lindsay Zdroik fired a 2-hitter with 12 strikeouts and no walks and senior Ryann Scully hit a 2-run home run as St. Edward's softball team blanked Wheaton Academy 4-0 Thursday in Metro Suburban West action in West Chicago.
Zdroik (12-4-1) now has 163 strikeouts for the season. She also went 2-for-4 in the win.
Devyn Ernst added 2 RBI for St. Edward (17-6-1, 6-4).
Prairie Ridge 7, Hampshire 3: Joslyn Nelson was 2-for-3 for the Whip-Purs (11-15, 5-4) in this Fox Valley Conference Valley Division loss. Haley Widmayer suffered the loss in the circle.
McHenry 3, Dundee-Crown 0: Taylor Koepke limited Dundee-Crown to 4 hits as FVC Valley leader McHenry downed the Chargers. Losing pitcher Sydney Ruggles had 2 hits for D-C (11-8, 3-4).
Cary-Grove 13, CL South 1: Grace Pilz went 3-for-4 with a home run, double and 7 RBI to lead the Trojans (7-14, 3-5) and help them snap a 6-game losing streak in this FVC Valley game. Molly MacDuff had 2 hits including a double and 2 RBI for C-G while Alyssa Gurgone and winning pitcher Caitlyn Adams also had doubles. Hailee Massie took the loss for the Gators (14-8, 2-5).
West Chicago 11, Streamwood 1: Losing pitcher Jessica Daley and Emily Unthank had doubles for the Sabres (7-16, 4-11) in this Upstate Eight River loss.
