Elk Grove hosts first CinéStudent Film Festival

The red carpet will be rolled out on Saturday, May 9, at Elk Grove High School, 500 W. Elk Grove Blvd., Elk Grove Village, for the first CinéStudent Film Festival.

The festival, which begins at 7 p.m., will feature 11 films made by students from Elk Grove, Hersey and Prospect high schools. The films range from drama to thriller to documentary to music video.

"This is a great opportunity for students to see what can be done and where you can go in a film or media career," said Bruce Janu, Elk Grove teacher and festival director.

The films are being judged by a panel of experts and awards will be given for Best Film, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography and Best Performances. At the festival, the audience will also have a chance to vote on their favorite film.

In addition to the student films, the festival will also feature a District 214 alumnus Jordan Graves, who is pursuing a career in film and his short film, "Little Black Book." Graves, a 2012 Hersey graduate, is currently majoring in digital media at DePaul University.

Tickets for the festival are $3 and attendees can win prizes, including dinner at Rocco Vino's, pizza from Lou Malnati's and bowling at Elk Grove Bowl.

The festival's sponsors include Rocco Vino's, Classic Cinema in Elk Grove, Elk Grove Dermatology, Shelby' Campbell's and American Tiger Karate Academy in Arlington Heights.
