Watching the gardens grow in Geneva

The Geneva Community Gardens at Prairie Green is a cooperative partnership between the park district, the city and the Kane County Forest Preserve District. The gardens feature 124 plots and are at Peck and Bricher roads.

According to the park district, each plot measures 20 feet by 30 feet, and 12 plots are designated for organic growers. The plots will be open from dawn to dusk between April and October. Five raised beds are available for use by gardeners with limited mobility.

The park district oversees the seasonal operation of the gardens. Staff members rototill all of the plots after October 31.

Returning gardeners have first priority to renew their contracts, so each year a limited number of plots are available. If plots are not available, a gardener can be put on the waitlist and will be contacted by phone if a plot becomes available.
