New Philharmonic invites young musicians to audition

Young musicians who would like an opportunity to perform with a professional orchestra may audition at the second annual New Philharmonic Young People's Competition from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 17, at College of DuPage's McAninch Arts Center, Room 140, 425 Fawell Blvd., Glen Ellyn. The audition reservation deadline is Friday, May 15.

"New Philharmonic was thrilled with the warm reception our audiences gave the winners of the inaugural 2014-2015 competition and the way it helped enhance our connection to the DuPage community," said Maestro Kirk Muspratt.

"As expected, each youth musician found the opportunity to perform at the MAC a memorable experience, but what we didn't expect was the way our hearts were warmed and inspired by their youthful enthusiasm for classical music and the astonishing level of their talent."

Last year's competition winners included Glen Ellyn's Bryanna Noelle Sebring, Hugo Zoells and Sophie Lekas of Hinsdale;, Naperville's Madison Perry; and Wheaton's Ben Graves, Luke Mondia, Ben Fefferman and Kevin Li.

Winners selected in the 2015-2016 auditions will have the opportunity to perform at a New Philharmonic concert during the coming season. The competition is open to young instrumentalists and vocalists who reside in College of DuPage Community College District 502 or who study with a teacher in District 502.

Students must have completed no grade higher than 11th grade by June 30.

Audition reservations may be made at (630) 942-3008 during regular business hours Monday through Friday. Application forms also can be downloaded from AtTheMAC.org/Events/Auditions.

There is a $20 application fee (cash or check, payable at time of audition). Vocal and instrumental solos, duets, trios and quartets are welcome. Audition pieces may be no longer than two minutes and should be memorized. If necessary, those auditioning should provide their own accompanists.
