Des Plaines community band holds Mother's Day concert

On Mother's Day, the Des Plaines Park District Community Concert Band will perform a concert, "That Which Made Us." It will begin at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Prairie Lakes Theater, 515 E. Thacker St.

The program features music that will stir a nostalgic "chord" with guests, young and old alike, being a celebration of mothers and a reflection of days gone by. It will take the audience on a tour of the various experiences and traditions that shape who we are.

Mark Wozniczka, a band member since 2010, will be the guest conductor. He is choral and percussion director at St. Patrick High School in Chicago. He sings regularly with the Apollo Chorus of Chicago.

Moms will receive a gift from the park district and the Des Plaines Camera Club will provide complimentary family photos.

Tickets are available at the door: adults $8; seniors and students $5; and a family of four $15; free for children under the age of 6.

The band's next concert will be "Live at the Lake" 7 p.m. Thursday, July 2, at Lake Park Memorial Pavilion. For more information about the band, visit DPParks.org.
