Prairie View students join in Earth Day cleanup

After learning about Earth Day and how the students can help save the earth, first-grade students in Garret Roberts' class at Prairie View Grade School in Elgin help celebrate Earth Day by doing things around their school.

The students planted flowers at the entrance of the Burlington Central Unit District 301 elementary school and picked weeds in the flower beds.

Roberts stated, “It was amazing to see the kids having a good time and caring to know how they are helping make the world a cleaner and healthier place to live.”

The students loved the fact that they were helping their school and knowing that their friends and family would get to see how much better it looked.

After learning about reducing, reusing and recycling, the students spent time walking around the school to clean up trash.

The students separated the trash from the recycling to help gain an understanding of the impact of recycling.
