New York Gilbert and Sullivan Players present 'I've Got A Little Twist' at CLC

Take the music of Gilbert and Sullivan, add a twist of Broadway show tunes and stir; that's the concept behind "I've Got a Little Twist," a musical revue being presented by the New York Gilbert and Sullivan Players at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 9, at the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts at the College of Lake County in Grayslake.

The show's title is a takeoff on the Gilbert and Sullivan song "I've Got a Little List" from their operetta "The Mikado." The production features six singers known for many roles with the New York Gilbert and Sullivan Players, an organization dedicated to "giving vitality to the living legacy of Gilbert and Sullivan."

"I've Got a Little Twist" is where "The Mikado" meets "The Music Man," where the "HMS Pinafore" sets sail for "Brigadoon," where "The Pirates of Penzance" take shore leave "On the Town." This one-of-a-kind show proves the Gilbert and Sullivan repertoire is still fun, fresh and full of life.

The show also features hit Broadway show tunes from Rodgers and Hammerstein, Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim, Lerner and Loewe, Meredith Willson and Jerry Herman.

The show will be held in the intimate 250-seat Studio Theatre. It is produced by Albert Bergeret and David Wannen and was conceived, written and directed by David Auxier. The musical arrangements and direction are by Mark York, with technical direction by James Mills.

The cast includes Sarah Caldwell Smith (soprano), Angela Christine Smith (alto), Daniel Greenwood (tenor), Stephen Quint (comic baritone), David Wannen (bass baritone), David Auxier (baritone/master of ceremonies) and Mark York (piano).

Tickets are $38 for regular admission; $37 for seniors and CLC staff and alumni; $15 for teens and CLC students; and $12 for children. A $2 per ticket JLC facility fee will be added at the time of purchase. Other fees may apply to Internet purchases. CLC student tickets are not available for online purchase.
