Fire does $40,000 in damage to Zion apartment
Four Zion residents were displaced by a fire that left their apartment and belongings with about $40,000 in damage Saturday, authorities said.
One of the occupants in the apartment building on the 2800 block of Galilee Avenue called 9-1-1 about 9:14 a.m. to report the fire.
The first arriving firefighters saw smoke coming from the second floor of the building. Crews stretched hoses off a fire engine to the second-floor bedroom, where the fire was contained, the Zion Fire Department said in a news release. It took about 300 gallons of water to put out the blaze.
There were no injuries, but one of the residents was taken to the hospital for an unrelated matter in good condition, according to the news release.
The fire left the apartment with heavy smoke and heat damage throughout the entire unit. The American Red Cross is helping the residents with their immediate needs.
Zion investigators continue to probe the fire's cause.
