Spring into healthy living with Naperville Family Expo

Families who crave a detox from the winter doldrums and want to launch into spring with fresh ways to live, eat and play can attend the first Naperville Family Expo.

Hosted by Lifetime Health and Wellness, in partnership with Naperville Public Library, the expo will feature more than 30 local businesses, vendors and health care practitioners showcasing safe, natural and eco-friendly products and services from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 2, at Naperville Public Library's 95th Street branch, 3015 Cedar Glade Drive, Naperville.

The expo, geared toward families with young children and expectant mothers, will help with the many overwhelming decisions families face such as choosing the best health care practitioner or the safest nontoxic cleaning products.

"It is important for parents to do their research so they can better understand the options they have available to them," said Dr. Michelle Dougherty, practice owner and chiropractic physician with Lifetime Health and Wellness.

"Parents typically are, and should be, the strongest advocate for their children's health and their families' well-being. In choosing doctors and health care practitioners, it is important that they not only respect and listen to your concerns, but that they are able to adequately answer your questions."

Dougherty said a variety of demonstrations will be provided throughout the day, starting with a safety demo courtesy of the Naperville Fire Department.

Along with local mothers groups and other family-focused organizations, the all-ages expo also will include a crafts station as well as an interactive toy and play area for kids. Free samples, coupons, special promotions and dozens of door prizes also will be given out and raffled off throughout the day.

"With products, everything from your food choices to everyday cleaning products have an impact on your family's health," Dougherty said. "With the amount of choices families have available to them today, it is more important than ever for families to truly understand all the options available and that they can find safe, healthy and affordable services and products that fit their needs."
