Dig in at Gem and Mineral Show May 23-24

Chicagoland Gem & Mineral Association's Show will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 23, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 24, at DuPage County Fairgrounds, 2015 Manchester Road in Wheaton.

Seven Chicago area rock and mineral clubs present Illinois' largest shows for rockhounds, with more than 30 nationally known dealers, exhibits by museums and private collectors, educational guest speakers, lapidary demonstrations, silent auctions, door prizes, silent auctions, and Kids' Room. Shop for rocks, gems, minerals, crystals, fossils, handmade jewelry, beads, tools and supplies, books, findings, and more. See hands-on demonstrations of jewelry making, geode cracking, gold panning, opal cutting, metal smithing, glass fusing, wire-wrapping, fossil preparation, faceting, and more.

Food will be available. It will be held in air-conditioned Building 1.

Admission is $5, $3 for those age 13-17 and age 60 and older; military service personnel and children under age 13 are admitted free. Parking is free.

The clubs of Chicagoland Gem & Mineral Association are Chicago Rocks & Minerals Society in Skokie, West Suburban Lapidary Club in Elmhurst, Earth Science Club of Northern Illinois (ESCONI) in Glen Ellyn, South Suburban Earth Science Club in Park Forest, Des Plaines Valley Geological Society, Elgin Rock Club, and Northeast Illinois Gold Prospectors in Mokena.
