Illinois House, Moylan honor retiring OCC president

Retiring Oakton Community College President Margaret “Peg” Burke Lee was recently honored by the Illinois House and on Friday, state Rep. Marty Moylan, of Des Plaines, presented Lee with a copy of House Resolution 268.

“Under Dr. Lee's supervision, Oakton has grown into a thriving community college that is at the forefront of education,” said Moylan. “Des Plaines and Park Ridge would not be the communities they are today without Oakton and especially the leadership provided by Dr. Lee.”

Lee became an academic vice president and English professor at Oakton in 1985. After 10 years she ascended to the presidency, a job she has held for 20 years. This past March, Lee was honored by having Oakton's new science and health career center named in her honor. Her final day with the college will be in June.

“The alumni of Oakton go on to successful careers in medicine, education, technology, and many other fields,” said Moylan. “These successes show the tremendous value the college provides to our communities.”
