Dundee Historical Society to present program on ladies in the Civil War

The Dundee Township Historical Society will hold its annual meeting and program at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 3, at the museum, 426 Highland Ave. in West Dundee.

The community is invited to hear "Ladies of the Rebellion," a program regarding the roles of ladies during the Civil War.

There were many ways in which the women supported the war effort, from sewing uniforms and knitting socks to send to soldiers to serving as nurses, laundresses, vivandieres and more.

The program will be preceded by a short business meeting with election of officers. Members and nonmembers are welcome. There is no admission charge for the program, though donations will be accepted.

For details, visit dundeetownshiphistorical.org or follow the historical society on Facebook.

The museum is open 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesdays and Sundays, March through December, and by appointment. For details, call (847) 428-6996 or email dths@sbcglobal.net.
