Bees sting Cougars in 13 innings

BURLINGTON, Iowa - Down to their last strike, the Burlington Bees (13-8) battled back to defeat the Kane County Cougars 3-2 in 13 innings Thursday afternoon at Community Field.

For the Cougars (9-12), Jose Queliz had an RBI single, Josh Elander an RBI double and starter Brent Jones worked 6 scoreless innings.

Ahead 2-1 in the ninth, the Cougars' Mason McCullough was seeking his fifth save, but he walked Ryan Seiz with two outs. Pinch runner Raul Linares scored the tying run on Michael Hermosillo's short pop fly when second baseman Fernery Ozuna fell trying to catch the ball.

Cougars relief pitchers stranded the winning run in scoring position for three straight extra innings. In the 13th with the infield playing in, Wade Wass hit a single off Nick Baker (1-1) that eluded Sergio Alcantara to score Natanel Delgado with the winning run. The Cougars open a six-game homestand today at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark in Geneva at 6:30 p.m., sending Jared Miller (2-1, 4.26 ERA) against Beloit's Brent Graves (1-0, 5.57).
