A Montgomery man faces charges after he kicked a small dog while arguing with his girlfriend in Aurora, fatally injuring the pup, officials said. Cornelio J. Anaya, 23, was charged with a felony count of cruelty to animals. Full story.

Brush fire melts siding on Round Lake Beach townhouses

Two Round Lake Beach townhouses narrowly escaped a brush fire yesterday afternoon, fire officials said. The fire started in an undeveloped wetlands area just before 3 p.m. between Rollins Road and Meadowgreen Lane, said Tony Carraro, a captain with the Greater Round Round Fire Protection District. Police: Man in truck tried to lure kids in Schaumburg

Schaumburg police want the public's help tracking down a man they say tried to lure two children Tuesday evening. At about 5:45 p.m., a white man in his 30s stopped his black pickup truck at Jaycee Park, 922 Cornell Lane, near two elementary school-aged children who were walking, Schaumburg police said in a news release. $20,000 pay raise for Naperville parks director up for vote

Naperville Park District commissioners are expected to vote tonight on a contract extension for Executive Director Ray McGury that could raise his base annual salary by roughly $20,000 to $190,000. It also would give him incentives, in the form of different amounts of guaranteed severance pay, to stay with the park district. Full story.
