Art For All to host 'Masterpiece of Cake' May 1

Art For All invites you to "Masterpiece of Cake" from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 1, at Elgin Artspace Lofts Gallery, 51 S. Spring St. in Elgin.

This fundraising event will feature a raffle of cakes decorated in famous painting styles or replicating famous paintings as executed by local professional, amateur, and Art for All member artists.

The event will coincide with the opening of the spring gallery art exhibit displaying artwork created by many of the artist members of Art for All. The ArtSpace Lofts is also the starting point for Downtown Elgin's Art Hop: First Fridays event.

It will raise funds to support three area nonprofit agencies by providing purchased art supplies. Each of the agencies selected uses art as one means of communication and self-expression by those they serve. For many, art can speak volumes when the words cannot be found. The three agencies that will be receiving art supplies purchased from the fundraiser for their programs are: Fox Valley Volunteer Hospice to support its bereavement counseling programs for children through their annual summer camp, "Grief Takes a Hike," and its ongoing six-week sessions, "Herbie's Friends"; Association for Individual Development serving individuals who have developmental, physical and/or mental challenges; and YWCA of Elgin, serving many children and youth in the Elgin area. The YWCA's after school and "no school" day sessions provide quality child care in a safe and supportive environment.
