Pooches and owners invited to roam arboretum grounds on May 9

Dog owners and their four-legged friends can roam the Morton Arboretum's 16 miles of woods, prairies and other natural landscapes during Tails on the Trails.

The day will include several dog-friendly activities and offerings by Meadow Lake, rain or shine, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 9, at 4100 Route 53, Lisle. Activities include:

• Demonstrations on pet health and fitness, obedience and agility;

• Games for canines and their companions, including a peanut butter-licking contest;

• Guided hikes every 45 minutes;

• Dog products and services for sale at the pet expo;

• Question-and-answer session with veterinarian Dr. Alexis Newman of Partners and Paws Veterinary Services; and

• The opportunity to meet dogs available for adoption and learn more about volunteering with animal shelters.

The event also features food from Chicago Dawg food truck.

The cost is $5 per dog and regular admission fees for owners. Each dog will receive an arboretum bandanna with paid admission. A portion of the proceeds will go to local animal shelters.

Dogs must be current with vaccinations, social with other animals, and on a leash at all times while on arboretum property. Dogs will not be allowed inside buildings, the Children's Garden, or the Maze Garden.
