Past is present at Barrington 1865 Street Festival

Cook and Station streets were clogged with hundreds of people who came out to downtown Barrington Sunday afternoon to enjoy the 1865 Street Festival.

The festival featured music, food, refreshments and sunny weather. The event was originally scheduled for Saturday, but the organizers decided to reschedule it last Thursday after a forecast of rain.

Among crowd Sunday were people dressed in Victorian-era clothing to fit in with the many vintage components of the festival, such as the Wells Fargo stagecoach. Also walking the streets were jugglers, stilt walkers, Civil War re-enactors and several actors performing as historical figures.

There were food and beer stations up and down the street, and a stage was set up near the Barrington Flower Shop for live music.

The event served as the kickoff for the village's yearlong 150th anniversary celebration.

Two other sesquicentennial-related events went on in the village Sunday. At Citizens Park, a vintage baseball team called the Crackerjacks played a game using old-school rules. And at the Barrington Area Library, vintage photos and memorabilia from Barrington's past were on display for the public.
