Painting wall, clay projects, music highlight Aurora U.'s first Art Walk

Aurora University's first Art Walk showcased art projects, some interactive, at 23 outdoor stations and two in Phillips Library on Friday, April 17.

Held from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on the campus quadrangle, the walk was held in conjunction with an annual Honors Convocation in Crimi Auditorium.

The event featured art, music, theater performances and other activities. The Theatre Department's production of "Dancing at Lughnasa" at 7:30 p.m. in Perry Theatre concluded the celebration.

A highlight was a 20-feet-tall. two-sided, wooden painting wall that some student artists used stepladders to reach top levels with brushes.

Geneva's Christian Pastorello, piano instructor, offered a virtual interactive keyboard station at which students could play a piano using a video-game type screen.

At Phillips Library, artists were invited to craft paper flowers from discarded book pages. Also, writers chose from stick-on words to compose writings on a glass wall of poetry.

Walk participants were be able to collect stamps from stations for a "Passport" program. Students who completed passports qualified for raffle prizes.

Abe Messieha, senior marketing and business administration major, said "All the stations of the Art Walk featured something unique and new that allowed participants to view art in different ways."

"A goal of the Art Walk is to increase on-campus awareness of and enrollment in various art classes offered at AU," said Messieha.

"Classes are structured to help students dive deep into a new level of education, exposing them to creativity in the classroom and artistic thinking," Messieha said.
