Baseball: Lake County roundup
Ben Manski earned the win and helped himself at the plate, as Libertyville's baseball team defeated visiting Highland Park 9-2 in a nonconference game Saturday.
Manski had an RBI double in a 4-run first inning and hit a 2-run single in a 5-run second. Manski and Jake Vogt each went 2-for-3 at the plate. Sean Ferraro was 3-for-3, as Libertyville (11-7) pounded out 13 hits.
Ryan Jackson (2-for-4, 2 RBI) and Vogt also doubled in the win. Manski allowed 2 runs (1 earned) over 5 innings, striking out one and walking two. Matt Friello finished up on the mound, throwing 2 scoreless innings of 1-hit ball.
Stevenson 11, Rolling Meadows 1: Michael Kingery pitched a five-inning complete game, allowing 5 hits, and the Patriots jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings in the nonconference game.
Jimmy Marchese doubled and drove in 4 runs for Stevenson (12-6-1), while Robby McGaha tripled and knocked in three.
Kingery struck out five and didn't walk a batter.
Antioch 12, Chicago Prep 0: Travis Slywka went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, as the host Sequoits captured the nonconference game in five innings.
Freshman John Petty doubled and knocked in 2 runs, and Ben Gutke also had 2 RBI. Connor Kaiser allowed 4 hits over 4 innings in earning the win.
Prairie Ridge 13, Grayslake Central 4: Greg Gauger's double accounted for 1 of just 3 hits by the Rams in their Fox Valley Conference loss.
Grayslake Central starter Justin Guryn allowed 4 earned runs over 3 2/3 innings.
