Schaumburg 13, McHenry 12: The Saxons got a clutch finish to pull out a nonconference win over evenly matched teams.
Saxons keeper Edin Latic made 2 of his 17 saves as McHenry tried for a go-ahead goal in a man-up situation.
After Schaumburg's defense held, the Saxons called a timeout with 9 seconds left. A first shot missed, but Jack Pyde collected the rebound and scored the game-winner.
Christian Zielinski led Schaumburg (14-10) with 7 goals, Pyde finished with 4 and Tyler Gustafson and Frank Kovar had 1 apiece.
Mundelein tournament: Conant topped Mundelein 12-5 and edged Homewood-Flossmoor 11-9 before falling 12-7 against the team ranked No. 2 in the state, Naperville Central.
Riverside-Brookfield tournament: Hoffman Estates claimed three wins while losing once. The Hawks edged Maine East 9-8, handled Morton 13-8 and topped the New Trier 'B' team 11-8 and fell to R-B 9-5.
Glenbrook South tournament: After falling to New Trier 14-5 on Friday, Palatine followed up with a 9-8 victory over Hersey, an 11-6 loss to Libertyville and a 10-7 loss to Evanston.
Prospect lost 13-5 to Glenbrook South on Friday, then fell to Libertyville 7-5 before tying both Hersey (7-7) and Lake Forest (7-7).
Hersey lost to New Trier 14-2 on Friday before finishing up with an 8-2 victory against Lake Forest.
