NIU Law sets pace with sixth annual 'NIjUdicata' race

Northern Illinois University College of Law held its sixth annual "NIjUdicata: 5K Run/Walk and BBQ" on Saturday, April 11, in DeKalb.

NIU Law alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends made up the field of close to 120 racers who enjoyed a sunny trip through all the most scenic spots on the DeKalb campus.

Beating the pack to the finish line were the overall male and female winners of the race: third-year NIU Law student Logan Block with a time of 18:01 and alumna and race veteran Kate Guensburg (2014) with a time of 20:51.

The top female law student was third-year student Alyssa Freeman with a time of 26:29.

Motion for a Speedy Finish once again reigned supreme as the top team in the race with team members Alex Geocaris (2011), Kyle Kunz ('13), Alex Lundeen ('13), Omar Salguero ('12) and Christopher Warmbold ('13) posting an average time of 23:19.

Dean Jennifer Rosato Perea, the inspiration for the event, completed her final run as Dean of NIU Law. She finished well, leading the Dean's Team to a third place team finish this year. Joining Dean Rosato Perea were alumni James McCluskey (1979) and Mallory Sanzeri ('13), as well as NIU Law professor Mark Cordes.

This year's run also saw the return of the "Battle of the Bar Associations."

The DuPage County Bar Association claimed the top prize with team members Kate Guensburg ('14), Katie Haskins Becker ('11), Carmel Huseman ('05), Brian Moore ('92) and Ed Underhill ('84).

NIU Law would like to give special thanks to our generous sponsors, volunteers, and event partners, as well as the NIU Police Department for providing security for the run.
