Join Glen Ellyn CROP Walk to aid world hunger

In the Glen Ellyn/Wheaton Area CROP Hunger Walk, members of about a dozen area churches will take steps to feed hungry people locally and around the world.

The walk steps off at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 3, from Grace Lutheran Church on Forest Avenue, near Pennsylvania Avenue, in Glen Ellyn. Registration begins at 1 p.m. The family-friendly route of about three miles will pass Five Corners and circle Lake Ellyn. Strollers are welcome.

The walk raises money for Church World Service as well as four local agencies: People's Resource Center, Glen Ellyn Food Pantry, Interfaith Food Pantry in Carol Stream, and Glen Ellyn Senior Citizens Program.

Church World Service works to eliminate poverty and hunger in developing countries in Africa, the Mideast, Asia and South America through agricultural assistance, food supplies and water resource technology.

It also provides relief to areas in the U.S. stricken with natural disasters such as hurricanes and tornadoes.

Last year, walkers from 12 area churches participated and raised more than $24,000. For information on Church World Service, visit cwsglobal.org.
