Elk Grove, Prospect still tied for MSL East lead

Chuck Fleming doubled and drove in 2 runs, and Elk Grove starter Joe Lopez and reliever Christian Camacho didn't yield many chances as host Elk Grove picked up a Mid-Suburban League baseball victory on Friday by topping Conant 5-1.

Camacho had 2 hits and a stolen base, and provided 2 scoreless relief innings to earn a save. Lopez got the win after allowing an earned run with 2 strikeouts through 5 innings.

CJ Deshazer and Nick Roberts doubled for Conant (11-7, 3-3), which finished with 5 hits.

The victory keeps Elk Grove tied for first with Prospect in the MSL East race at 5-1. Elk Grove is 12-4 overall.

Prospect 4, Hoffman Estates 0: Justin Placko took command for the host Knights, allowing 4 hits while providing a complete-game win.

Mike Piotrowski doubled and drove in 2 runs for Prospect (15-4, 5-1).

Jeff Mayes doubled for Hoffman Estates (9-6, 2-4), and Ryan Davalos allowed 6 hits in complete-game loss.

Barrington 9, Buffalo Grove 4: The visiting Broncos managed to stay perfect in Mid-Suburban League play, improving to 6-0 to lead the West Division and 14-6 overall.

Luke Johnson, Mitch Pfeiffer and Jacob Chapman doubled and Jimmy Day tripled for the Broncos, who also got 2-hit efforts from Casey Dodge and Jake Petersen.

Jake Zyzda struck out three and allowed 6 hits while earning a victory.

John Carpinelli and Ben Moran both had 2 hits for Buffalo Grove (7-12, 2-4).

Palatine 4, Rolling Meadows 2: The visiting Pirates scored 3 runs in the top of the seventh inning to earn a come-from-behind victory as Peter Kawiecki drove in the go-ahead run with a double.

Nick Orlando also doubled for Palatine (7-11, 2-4), which got a complete game from Patrick Seeberger (9 strikeouts, 2 walks, 5 hits).

Trent McNally had a double for Rolling Meadows (3-14, 1-5), and Jack O'Neill had 2 hits.

Schaumburg 4, Wheeling 3: Andrew Ralston's RBI double in the top of the seventh inning drove in the winning run as the Saxons pulled out an MSL victory.

Alex Kiszkowski also doubled and finished 3-for-4 and 3 runs scored for Schaumburg (11-7, 3-3), which got 6 strong innings from winner Parker Nolan and the final three outs from Christian Poulsen.

Alex Khatcherian had the only extra-base hit for Wheeling (6-10, 1-4), a double, and Nathan Cooney struck out six but suffered a complete-game defeat.

Hersey 9, Fremd 6: Nick Zouras went 2-for-4 and drove in 3 runs, and host Hersey played error-free defense to outscore the Vikings in MSL action.

Fremd (9-8, 3-3) outhit Hersey 12-11, getting 3 hits from J.T. Kolderup and 2 apiece from Ian Bohn, Jake LaGasse and Joe Uhrich, but the Vikings committed 6 errors.

Charlie Dempsey had 2 hits and Will Trossen drove in 2 runs for Hersey (4-10-1, 3-3).

Christian Liberty 14, IMSA 5: Chris Hoffman, Aiden Miller and Matthew Kelly each doubled as part of a 19-hit attack by the Chargers in nonconference play as Jimmy Cunningham earned a pitching victory.
