Students plant 6 bur oak trees for Arbor Day at Carl Sandburg Middle School

In celebration of Arbor Day, Carl Sandburg Middle School seventh grade students in Mundelein planted six bur oak trees on Friday.

Students worked with shovels throughout the day, planting the trees in the school's prairie area on the north side of the building on Hawley Street.

The planting is part of a science unit the students have been studying on ecosystem dynamics, functioning and resilience.

According to the Arbor Day Foundation, National Arbor Day is celebrated on the last Friday in April. All fifty states, Puerto Rico, and some U.S. territories have passed legislation adopting Arbor Day, which is celebrated on a date appropriate for tree planting in their region.
